San Jose Earthquakes vs. Philadelphia Union

STREAMING: MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US, on DAZN in Canada

The San Jose Earthquakes and the Philadelphia Union look to bounce back from road defeats on the weekend when they square off in a vital midweek showdown at Avaya Stadium.

The Earthquakes (13-13-5) are sitting on the Western Conference playoff line, level on points with the eighth-place Portland Timbers following a 3-1 loss to Atlanta United Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Quakes fell behind on Justin Meram's fourth minute goal, but leveled on a Brad Guzan own goal in the 27th minute. Things went pear-shaped from there for the visitors, who were reduced to 10 men on Cristian Espinoza's second bookable offense. Chris Wondolowki was sent off from the bench after Matias Almeyda was sent from the touchline late.

The Union (15-9-7) clinched a home playoff game, but their hopes of finishing first in the Eastern Conference took a hit following a 2-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls Sunday night at Red Bull Arena. Andre Blake spilled a Josh Sims cross in front of the net, allowing Tom Barlow to tap in the opening goal. Daniel Royer added an insurance goal in second-half stoppage time. Philadelphia are third in the East, two points behind second-place Atlanta and six behind first-place NYCFC.
