MLS Heineken® Rivalry Week kicks off with one of the oldest rivalries in the league as D.C. United host the New York Red Bulls in the first Atlantic Cup showdown of the season at Audi Field Wednesday night.
D.C. United (10-8-9) sit one point in front of the Red Bulls in fourth place in the Eastern Conference and are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place Saturday. Yordy Reyna scored the lone goal in the 18th minute when he placed a shot from 24 yards out across his body and through a handful of DC defenders, eluding the diving attempt of goalkeeper Bill Hamid.
Despite statistical domination, the Red Bulls (11-10-5) settled for a 1-1 draw against the New England Revolution Saturday at Red Bull Arena. Marc Rzatkowski gave the hosts a deserved lead with a stunning left-footed strike from the edge of the 18-yard box in the 18th minute, but the Red Bulls couldn't put another of their 22 shots, including 10 on frame, past Matt Turner. Gustavo Bou leveled in the second half for the Revs in the 65th minute, his fourth goal in six appearances.
New York have lost just one game against D.C. United since the start of 2015 season (8W-5D). United’s lone win in that time did come at home.
